くいちがい【食い違い】

1 〔事の行き違い〕 a discrepancy; (an) inconsistency; (誤解などによるもの) 《be at》 cross-purposes.

●食い違いが生じる ＝くいちがう

・二人の話に食い違いがある. There are some inconsistencies in what the two people say. | The two stories do not tally.

・犯人の供述と捜査結果とにはわずかな食い違いが見られた. There was a small discrepancy between the criminal's statement and the results of the investigation.

2 〔相違〕 (a) difference; (a) discrepancy; divergence; disparity; a mismatch.

●思想の食い違い (an) ideological discrepancy
